Greg Goodwin Withdraws and Endorses Mark DeVol for Congress

September 28, 2010

Mark DeVol continues to surprise everyone with his growing attention and popularity amongst conservative voters in the Third District.  On Sunday, Independent candidate, Greg Goodwin, withdrew his candidacy for U.S. Congress in the Third District to support DeVol’s campaign.

Goodwin said in a letter to all of his supporters, “After discussing this with my family, my supporters, and advisors I am excited to announce that I will be supporting Mark DeVol for the U.S. House of Representatives for the Third District of Tennessee.”

Goodwin went on to say, “I know Mark will work for not only for the Third District but for the nation… I am humbled by the support from all of you who have stood behind me for the last two years, and I enthusiastically ask you to vote for Mark DeVol.”

The timing for this endorsement is bad news for the Republican nominee, Chuck Fleischmann.  As more and more voters in the Third District begin to grow frustrated with Fleischmann as he avoids debating Mr. DeVol and Democratic nominee, John Wolfe.

Mr. DeVol said, “I am proud of the campaign that Mr. Goodwin ran.  He is a true conservative and a true patriot, and I consider it an honor to have his support.  I am excited to continue moving our campaign forward with him and his supporters.”

DeVol also said, “I think this is a strong statement for the people of the Third District who do not feel like they are being represented properly by their party nominee.  You see, Democrats and Republicans have a primary election that allows them to rally behind one candidate.  You are now seeing that amongst Independents and Tea Partiers, however, we are doing it on our own.  That speaks volumes about this district.  The tide is changing quickly!”

DeVol’s Communications Director, Lesley Swann, said the campaign was arranging a press conference for this coming Thursday in Hamilton County with even more news on the campaign’s progression.
