Political Affiliation
The political party system has failed to produce the elected officials that are willing to fight for the principles of the Constitution. I believe in the principle of a two party system….I belong to the party that respects the Constitution and the limited role of the Federal Government.
Because of this belief, I am running as an Independent. This is not semantics; the fact is the Democrat/Republican Party has failed to produce the elected officials that are willing to fight for these principles.
For these reasons, I have chosen to run for elected office:
- My primary objective is to shift the conversation from Party based politics to Issues based politics; the residents of the Third District will have a clear choice in November to elect a non-political Citizen Legislator as their representative.
- I believe serving in Congress is an honor, not a career and that it should be preformed out of service and for a limited period of time.
- Within the political party structure, the leadership has a profound influence over party affiliated representatives. As an independent, I will represent the best interests of the Third District…not the best interests of the party leadership.
- We must eliminate any possibility for the creation of a permanent political class. If elected, I will not accept the benefits package (health care and retirement) that are provided to all career politicians.
With a powerful voice and the ability to effectively communicate, our elected officials will begin to understand that Government works at the behest of us…We the People! Mark DeVol
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. Thomas Jefferson
Plaintiffs’ lawyers impede economic recovery
Dear Mr. DeVol,
I am an Alabama resident.
I think plaintiffs’ lawyers impede the country’s economic recovery. I also think they undermine business ethics. They particularly stand in the way of sensible medical malpractice reform as a way to lower the nation’s health care costs.
I have a blog How To Combat Plaintiffs’ Lawyers where I record my efforts to communicate with lawmakers, judges, attorney generals and academics, among others, about how I believe plaintiffs’ lawyers ill serve societal interests.
I receive no remuneration for any of my activities. I am not a member of any tort reform organization, chamber of commerce, or any other organization that has an interest in opposing plaintiffs’ lawyers.
Congress is debating more stimulus, health care reform, and other governmental action to get our nation’s economy back on track, and the country is moving toward the 2010 elections that will be a referendum on how the current Congress performs about these important domestic issues.
I hope you, as a United States Senator or Representative, or as a candidate for the Senate or the House of Representatives, will look at the contribution the plaintiffs’ lawyers make to the country’s economic difficulties and will consider, advocate and propose legislative action to lessen the problem of the plaintiffs’ lawyers.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Robert Shattuck
